There's no power, or the lamp's fuse has blown.

1. First check whether you've got power, and whether the device is connected to the right power supply in accordance with its specifications (110 V or 230 V).
2. Check the lamp's fuse, or have it checked by an electrician. You can usually find it at the device's mains input.

The fluorescent lamps are wired in pairs. In other words: if one lamp is defective, two lamps fail.

1. Swap one of the lamps that is not working for an installed one that is.
2. If both lamps light up again, the replaced lamp is defective. You can order replacement lamps here.
3. If the two lamps are still not working, restore the original condition and test the other lamp that is not working by repeating Steps 1 and 2.
4. If the two lamps are still not working, now also swap the second lamp that is not working for an installed one that is.
1. Both lamps light up: the two lamps you removed are defective. You can order replacement lamps here.
2. Neither lamp lights up: the ECG is defective and needs to be replaced. Kindly get in touch with our Technical Support.

The driver on the new PC is either missing or out-of-date.

1. Download the latest driver.

The lamp was not powered down correctly.

1. Confirm the dimming setting with "OK".
2. Now power down the lamp.

The fluorescent lamps are too old.

1. To continue standard-compliant viewing, replace the old lamps with new ones. You can order replacement lamps here.

The fluorescent lamps are not "run in". This is no fault but a physical process.

1. Switch on the fluorescent lamps one-time for 2 to 3 hours. This will stabilize the lamp and the flicker will disappear.

There's a fault in the LAN connection.

1. Have the internal LAN connection checked by an electrician.

The lamp's light contains too little or no UV. In accordance with the new ISO standard, the D50 and D65 fluorescent lamps have a higher UV component that simulates daylight. The effect can be intensified by using an additional UV lamp. Moreover, the lens installed must be UV-transmissive.

1. Remove the lens from the lamp, paying attention to the device's Assembly Instructions.
2. Now view your sample under the lamp without the lens.
   1. OBAs are visible: an old UV lens is installed. Inquire about lenses complying with the latest standard.
   2. OBAs are not visible: check whether your device's UV lamp is working (if installed), or get in touch with us. We'll be more than happy to help you in person.

Don't panic. The mercury content of a fluorescent lamp is very low, and it evaporates only slowly at room temperature. Proceed as follows:

1. Disconnect the lamp from the mains.
2. Ventilate the room for at least 15 minutes, creating a draft if possible.
3. Put on gloves to avoid cutting yourself on the broken glass.
4. Sweep up all broken parts, and use damp kitchen roll to pick up small fragments.
5. Put the remains of the lamp into a plastic bag and seal it tightly.
6. Take the broken lamp to the nearest collection point for old lamps.

The starters of fluorescent lamps are old. If you order a relamping kit next time you can order additional starters. You should replace starters frequently.

Yes. We offer new lenses for large devices, such as proofStations. On small devices or custom-made products, we recommend replacing the lamp. Get in touch with us – we'll be pleased to advise you.

Yes. For physical reasons, the full brightness and colour temperature are only achieved after about 100 hours of operation. The mercury contained in the lamp is partly liquid and partly gaseous. When off, the greater part of the mercury is in liquid state. In operation, the lamp heats up, and the gaseous portion increases. This causes the fluorescent lamp to shine more and more brightly. After about 100 hours, the gaseous mercury component is so great that the fluorescent lamp shines stably with the correct colour temperature for 2,500 hours.

Yes. To get reliable viewing conditions, we recommend a warm-up phase of at least 15 minutes for the fluorescent lamps.

You can find a description of the lamp replacement procedure ("relamping") in the Operating Instructions for your device. Should you no longer have them at hand, instructions can be downloaded from the online shop, where they can be found with the relevant product group.

The UV component of the lamps gives a more bluish appearance to materials containing optical brightening agents (OBAs).

1. Select one proof paper with OBAs and one without.
2. Place both proof papers under the lamp.
1. The two proof papers look the same: the lamps have no UV component, or the lens does not transmit it. See also "Fluorescent materials containing optical brightening agents (OBAs) are not visible under the light source".
2. The two proof papers look different (one is bluish, the other yellowish): the lamps contain a standard-compliant, higher UV component that is transmitted by the lenses.

Regardless of their output (in watts) and the standard illuminant involved, all our fluorescent lamps are T8 lamps with a G13 cap. The diameter of a tube is roughly 26 mm, which is why they are also often labeled T26, rather than T8.

To maintain permanently standard-compliant viewing conditions, we recommend changing the lamps after 2,500 hours of operation or after one year.

If the light colour changes, or the lamps flicker, the service life has usually already been greatly exceeded, and the light is therefore no longer standard-compliant. You can order replacement lamps here.

Given roughly 250 working days per year and daily, non-stop use for 10 hours, the service life is calculated as being 2,500 hours.

Please note that the lamps already have to be changed after 3 to 4 months if used in multi-shift operation. You can order replacement lamps here.

EB is installed in almost all devices from JUST Normlicht. Owing to its lower power loss, it's more energy-efficient and has a longer service life than CB. EB guarantees quick starting and flicker-free operation of the fluorescent lamp.

All JUST devices have a silver-coloured rating plate. Among other things, it indicates the Article No. and the Serial No.

You'll always find the sticker near the mains input. On colour proof lights, that's generally on the top, on the lamp. On viewing booths and desktop viewers, you'll find it on the back.

Yes. Only by changing all fluorescent lamps at once the operation hours can be monitored correctly.
